Approach to Coaching

Coaching (n): a partnership for achieving excellence

Coaching (v): to partner in order to achieve excellence

The coaching profession began about thirty years. The embrace of coaching by Corporations and celebrities (e.g., Oprah Winfrey) lead to an explosion in the mid-nineties. Coaching is a partnership that provides tools for performing at peak levels in your professional and/or personal life. The coach works with the client to achieve these outcomes. Personal coaches focus on personal outcomes. Professional coaches focus on professional outcomes for both individuals and organizations. Most coaches attain certification through the completion of a Coach Training Program recognized by the International Coach Federation (ICF) or credentialing by the ICF.

Cheryl's Mission:

Cheryl named her company Color Outside the Lines because of an intense desire to help her clients to substitute old thinking patterns with new options for achieving improved competence and continuous excellence. Her tag line, "…helping you to look beyond the obvious", captures the essence of Color Outside the Lines.

Cheryl's Philosophy:

Cheryl's coaching philosophy strives to leave her clients with the ability to continuously strive for excellence. She uses a three-step approach to achieve this outcome.

  1. First, she obtains commitment to the process from her clients.
  2. Second, she strives to help her clients to recognize their peak performance, and provides them with the skills to make adjustments when necessary.
  3. Third, she encourages her clients to continue with self-improvement. These steps result in long-term excellent performance or mastering "how to fish".

Cheryl's Technique:

Cheryl embraces the New Ventures West concept that effective coaching must consider the entire person. She helps each client to achieve balance in eight life domains (or areas) ranging from, money to relationships. She does a detailed assessment and creates an individualized program with practices, exercises, readings, etc.

She conducts coaching sessions in person and by phone. She prefers 6-months engagements, but will consider three months. Remember that it took a while to learn "the way that you've always done it". Likewise it will take time to learn "a new and more effective way to do it". Contact her for a discussion of your coaching needs and a fee estimate.
