heryl established her coaching practice, Color Outside the Lines, in 1998. She has provided coaching and consulting services to organizations for 20 years. She is committed to helping her clients overcome professional impediments and learn new behaviors for self-correction. Her offerings focus on effective communications, emotional intelligence competencies and change management. Her specialty areas include improving interpersonal relationships, refining communications skills, and enhancing leadership competencies. She brings both public and private sector experience. She uses a “systems approach” to her coaching and consulting engagements because any intervention, regardless of the magnitude, affects the entire organization. She helps her client deliver results through effective relationships.
Cheryl’s communications experience plays a pivotal role in her capacity to ask clients the right questions, not to provide the answers. Cheryl has coached senior executives, vice presidents, directors, middle managers, project managers and professional employees. She provides individual and team coaching, in person and by phone. Cheryl earned a Doctor of Management in Organizational Effectiveness from the University of Phoenix in June 2009. She received an MS in Communications from the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana and a BA in Journalism from Northeastern University in Boston. Cheryl earned Professional Effectiveness Coach Certification (CPEC) from New Ventures West. She achieved Master Coach Certification, the highest certification level, from the International Coach Federation, and remains committed to ongoing learning and self-assessment in order to provide her clients with the most effective coaching. Cheryl holds qualification to administer and interpret MBTI, FIRO-B, the Strong Interest Inventory, Skillscope 360 Feedback, the Bar-on EQ-i and EQ-360, OPM Leadership 360, PROFILOR, and the Leatherman Leadership Quotient. She is a member of the Academy of Management and the Human Capital Institute.
The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs and Women in Communications have invited Cheryl to guest speak. She served on several International Coach Federation panels, and has provided online chats about coaching for BET. She was the former Coach-in-Residence for the International Women's Career and Mentors' Network. IMDiversity.com included her thoughts about time management in the feature article, "Executive Coaches Speak Out.” The Ken Blanchard Companies chose Cheryl in the first group of coaches to work with its new coaching company. The Federal Executive Institute, the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) group that provides training and coaching for executives within the federal government, selected Cheryl to join its executive coaching pool and course facilitators as an adjunct faculty member. She recently created and facilitated an executive strategy retreat for the Associate Director of Human Capital at OPM. Cheryl also presented an Emotional Intelligence workshop at the Federal Executive Board conference.
Cheryl was a team coach/facilitator with Fannie Mae's Directors' Leadership Institute and provided individual coaching to directors. As coach/facilitator, she interpreted 360 reports, offered feedback, and provided a combination of individual and team coaching. She coached/facilitated one of EPA's Creative Leadership Groups. This nine-month experiential project targeted federal leaders. Cheryl also coached and provided 360 feedback to leaders in EPA's Up/Down Feedback program. Her work with NASA/Goddard Space Center included coaching participants in the year-long Leadership Alchemy Program. Cheryl completed a team building project for the US Forest Services. She also provided individual coaching to the participants. She presented a Knowledge Management workshop at an AARP leadership conference. Cheryl co-created Fannie Mae’s Career Development: Owning Your Career guidebook, and the info for a six-hour companion workshop. She also facilitated this workshop. She authored, Your Peeves Are No Pets: Managing Life’s Annoyances©.
Prior to opening her coaching practice, Cheryl worked at GE under Jack Welch for ten years, rising to Director of Marketing Communications. The experience that she attained at GE continues to provide value to her coaching and consulting engagements.
